Valhalla, NY – The Vikings earned a huge victory over the defending East District champion and NJCAA Division 2 World Series participant Lackawanna Falcons by the score of 10-4 Wednesday afternoon.
With iffy weather forecasted for later in the day, game time was moved up to a 2:30pm start. Safe to say Westchester was ready to take on the Falcons to put their name out there.
Josh Rosario would be on the bump for the Vikings looking to earn his second win of the season. After an eventless top of the first, SUNY WCC came to bat. Lead-off batter
Gavin Carlucci earned a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Marc Stockhausen also earned a walk and both advanced to second and third on another wild pitch.
AJ Falciglia earned the third walk of the inning loading the bases. Westchester would then get on the board first with the fourth walk of the inning thanks to
Nick Vendola, scoring Carlucci. The walk carousel continued with a total of eight walks by Lackawanna pitching plated a total of five Vikings.
Rosario kept Lackawanna's bats at bay pitching a scoreless second and third inning. Heading into the top of the fourth, Josh would retire the first two Falcon batters. Looking like a 1-2-3 inning, the next batter would reach on an error extending the inning. Lackawanna would pounce on the opportunity singling in their first run of the game and then plating three more runs off a three-run home run over the right field fence.
The game would stay at 5-4 in favor of the Vikings until the bottom of the sixth when a
Michael Manganiello single would plate Falciglia adding a little more cushion in favor of Westchester. The Vikings would break open the game in the bottom half of the eighth when Manganiello would add a Sac Fly scoring Stockhausen followed by a
Mike Tiseo double plating Falciglia.
Brandon Hernandez would then single through the shifted infield scoring Vendola. The final scoring play for SUNY WCC would be a Sac Fly from Carlucci scoring Tiseo to put the Vikings up by six heading into the ninth.
Jackson Kossow would come in a close the door and seal the victory for the Vikings.
Rosario would earn his second victory of the season throwing six strong innings, scattering eight hits while striking out four. The rest of the Viking bullpen comprised of
Mark Yorio,
Michael Dawson, and Kossow would only give up a hit over their three innings of work while striking out two and walking one. Manganiello and Tiseo would lead the team with three RBIs each while the Westchester lineup drew 15 walks while only striking out five times.
