Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Heads Into Spring Segment Winning 4 of last 5

January 7, 2025 - Valhalla, NY

The Vikings Men's Basketball team finished strong in the month of December, having come out on top in 4 of their last 5 games.  After defeating SUNY Sullivan at home on December 3rd, the Vikings had a bit of a break before traveling to Essex on December 14th.  WCC raced out to a commanding lead, scoring 55 points in the first half to hold a commanding 20 point lead en route to a 97-92 victory.  Sophomore Elijah Hernandez led the Vikings with 29 points and 5 rebounds during the match up.  Freshman Luke Walker chipped in with 17 points while Chris Kirkland and Mujahid Dine Yacoubou both had double doubles scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds each.

From there, the VIkings would fall to the high powered Chesapeake College on December 17th.  The team, who averages 85 points per game, had a tough game offensively and struggled to score all game, ultimately falling 97-68.

The team then went back on the road for a trip upstate, taking on Jamestown Community College and Erie Community College on 12/21 and 12/22, respectively.  Versus the Jayhawks, Westchester got off to a fast start in the first half, leading by 12 at the break en route to the 87-77 victory.  Again, the team was led by Hernandez who led all scorers with 25 points.  Robert Bori notched a career best 24 points to go with 14 rebounds and a double double effort.

On Sunday the team returned to action right away coming out victorious on the back end of playing on back to back days.  The back and forth affair was a little tougher for the Vikings as the team only led by 2 points with 3 minutes to go.  Hernandez again led the Vikings in scoring with 24 points.  Kirkland added 21.  It was Robert Bori again with 2 of his 14 points coming on two clutch free throws that gave WCC some breathing room as time ran down to helped the Vikings extend the lead until the final buzzer.

Weschester enters the 2nd half 7-8 and they return to action on Thursday, January 9th at 7pm in Viking Gymnasium as they host Lackawanna for an out of region match up.
