Westchester Tames the Lions in Dominating Victory

The Vikings traveled to Garden City, NY into the lion's den to face the Nassau Community College Lions. After a long, but exciting game, Westchester emerged victorious with a final score of 21-8.

It was a quiet start for both teams, until Nassau got it started with three runs in the second inning. When it was Westchester's turn at bat, they quickly came back with an explosive eight-run surge in the third, while their defense silenced Nassau's next attempt at the plate. The Vikings maintained their grip on the game, adding two more runs across the fourth and fifth innings. Nassau answered with three of their own, narrowing the gap to 10-6. With victory still within reach for their opponents, Westchester wanted to lock in the victory - erupting for seven more runs in the sixth inning. Nassau managed to tack on two additional runs before Westchester piled on four more of their own, putting the game out of reach. After just eight innings, the Vikings sealed a dominant win by run-ruling their rivals.

Westchester played an impressive game, with eleven of their teammates making their way around the bases and stepping on home plate. Two players, Nick Vendola and Elijah Villanueva, each contributed three runs for the team. Players who each contributed two runs during the game were Freddy Heymach, Peter Portugues, Jhonny Ortiz, Michael Tiseo, Lucas Feliciano, and Joseph Cohen. Ryan Done, Owen Tyler, and Randel Weisner are also to thank, as they each contributed a run apiece.

SUNY Westchester will now travel down to Winter Haven, Florida to participate in the RussMatt tournament. They will start off by playing Salem Community College this Sunday, March 16th in a doubleheader.
