After a much needed break Wednesday, the Vikings returned to the RussMatt tournament ready to dominate. Westchester faced the Holyoke Community College Cougars in a doubleheader and won both games.
In the first game, Westchester was first to get on the scoreboard as they earned three runs in the first and two in the second. In the bottom of the second, Holyoke would score their first and only run of the game. The Vikings offense really shined, as they got another six runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Ending the game due to the mercy rule, Westchester won the game, 11-1. Peter Portugues and Freddy Heymach would go 2 for 2. Luke Friscoe and Joseph Cohen would both go 2 for 3. Billy Parker was the star pitcher this game with six strikeouts, giving up only one run over 5 innings.
Similarly to the first game, WCC would start off the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. Holyoke would come back with two runs of their own in the third, cutting the lead to just one. The Vikings extended their lead with three more runs in the fifth, and a home run by
Joseph Cohen capped off the scoring in the final inning. The final score was 7-4.
Randel Weisner went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs, while
Peter Portugues was 2 for 3.
Michael Tiseo also homered in the game.
Today, the Vikings will face Northern Essex Community College in the last day of the RussMatt tournament. They will play a doubleheader, with the first game at 9:00am and the second at 11:30am
