Valhalla, NY - After a very tough loss against conference rival Rockland Community College this past Tuesday the Vikings were back in action against Sullivan Community College. Before the game there was a ceremony honoring the sophomores who would be moving on once the season concludes. They were Tarik Dacosta. Fari Joseph, Tiziah Spears, Mark Shkreli, Josh Ourigou, Isaac Turay, Franck Ouizimiamona and Roland Thenor. All of these players have brought so much to the team this year and will look to help the team make a late season push into the playoffs.
Once the dust settled from the ceremony and both teams took the court and the action began you could just tell it was going to come down to whoever had the ball last. It was constant back and forth action. After the constant action the Vikings found themselves down 1 with 20 seconds remaining. The ball ended up in Freshman Lucas Felciano's(Nyack, NY/Nyack High School) hands and he entered it to Sophomore Josh Ourigou. He would make a quick move and get fouled. He would split at the line and tie the game at 82. Sullivan would have a chance to win it but WCC forced a turnover and sent the game into overtime!
It felt like deja vu in overtime as with 23 seconds left the score was tied at 91. The ball would be in sophomore Tiziah Spears'(Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) hands and would drive, and get fouled with 8 seconds left. He would go 2/2 from the line and put the Vikings up 2. Sullivan would have the chance this time to tie. They would drive, get to the basket and get fouled. The first free throw swooshed through. The second clanked off the rim and the rebound was grabbed by Arber Mustafaj(Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Montessori Academy) and that would ultimately be the game. Vikings win 94-92! Tarik Dacosta(Bronx, NY/Marist High School) was huge in overtime with 6 points.
Feliciano led the way with 19 points for the Vikings. Sophomore Tarik Dacosta was right behind him with 15. Westchester will be back in action 1 more time in the Regular season as they will play Monroe University JV in New Rochelle. It will take place next Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Go show support as the Vikings get one more tuneup before the playoffs.
