For the First Time in 8 Years...

The Westchester CC Vikings opened the Region 15 Playoffs in dominant fashion on Friday, rolling past SUNY Orange Colts with an emphatic 8-0 first-round victory.

From the opening pitch, the Vikings were in complete control. Austin Jorgensen(Poughkeepsie, NY/Our lady of Lourdes) got the offense started with an RBI single in the second inning, and Westchester never looked back, methodically adding to the lead inning after inning.

Vasili Kelesidis(Stamford, CT/Stamford High School) was untouchable on the mound, delivering a masterful complete-game shutout. The right-hander scattered just three hits across seven innings while striking out eight, silencing the Colts lineup all afternoon.

The Vikings offense backed the ace with nine hits, led by Mercer Jordan(Beacon, NY/Beacon High School), Freddy Heymach(Pawling, NY/Pawling High School), and Jorgensen with two hits each. Jorgensen powered the lineup with three RBIs in a huge 2-for-3 performance, while Westchester's disciplined approach at the plate produced eight walks.

Westchester also flashed its defense with a double play as the Vikings cruised to a convincing playoff-opening victory and punched their ticket to the next round of the Region 15 Tournament

The Westchester CC Vikings kept their Region 15 Playoff run alive on Friday with a thrilling 18-10 victory over Rockland CC in Game 2 of the tournament.

The Vikings stormed out to an early 2-0 lead, but the momentum quickly shifted to the Hawks of Rockland County, who answered with eight unanswered runs to take an 8-2 lead heading into the fifth inning. Despite shaky defense and a few rough innings, the Vikings never folded, battling back with relentless energy and belief.

Westchester delivered the knockout blow in the sixth inning, erupting for eight runs to completely turn the game on its head. The biggest hit of the rally came off the bat of Gianni Generoso(Cortland Manot, NY/Walter Panas High School), whose bases-clearing double sent the Vikings dugout into a frenzy and ignited one of the most memorable comebacks in recent program history.

Joe Grullon(Bronx, NY/Stepinac High School) played a massive role in the comeback, stabilizing the game out of the bullpen and shutting down the Rockland offense long enough for Westchester's bats to come alive. The reliever tossed four crucial innings, allowing just three runs while earning the win.

The Vikings offense exploded for 14 hits in the victory. Heymach led the charge with three hits, while Jordan, Jorgensen, and Heymach each drove in three runs. Westchester also flashed the leather defensively, turning three double plays in the dramatic playoff win.

Following the comeback victory, Athletic Director Mike Belfiore called it "one of the more memorable comebacks" he can remember during his time at the school.

The quest for another Region 15 Championship continued this past Sunday as the main event was set… The Vikings of Westchester Community College vs. The Senators of Ulster County. Both teams earned their way to the championship game and earned the right to play for a chance to hoist the Region 15 Plaque.

Though both teams earned the right, Westchester took that chance and simply never looked back. From the opening inning, the Vikings came out swinging with championship intensity. Westchester stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first before adding another run in the second to seize complete control early.

Then came the knockout punch.

The Vikings erupted for nine runs in a jaw-dropping third inning that sent the dugout and crowd into a frenzy. Mercer Jordan crushed a three-run homer to left field, while Gianni Generoso delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a bases-clearing triple as Westchester buried UCCC under an avalanche of offense.

The celebration only continued in the fifth inning when Generoso and Brandon Davis(Danbury,CT/Danbury High School) launched home runs to put the finishing touches on a statement victory.

Reilly Deneen(North Salem, NY/North Salem High School) delivered a strong performance on the mound, battling through 5.1 innings to earn the Region 15 Championship-clinching win, while Christian Peralta(East Elmhurst, NY/Christ the Kings) slammed the door with two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

The Vikings offense was relentless all afternoon, piling up 10 hits and 13 walks. Jackson and Generoso each recorded three hits, Rodriguez added two more, and Westchester aggressively attacked on the basepaths all game long.

As the final outs were recorded, the celebration was on. The Vikings had officially claimed the Region 15 Championship in emphatic fashion, capping off a memorable season and for the first time 8 years were back on top!
