History… An Understatement

Jul 20

Valhalla, NY - It wouldn't be right if we didn't start our recaps with the most successful volleyball season in school history.

The 2025 season will forever be remembered as the greatest in the history of Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball.

From the opening serve of the season to the final championship point, the Vikings established themselves as one of the premier programs in Region 15, finishing with an outstanding 20-5 overall record while rewriting the program's record books. Their remarkable season was defined by resilience, determination, and an unwavering belief that they could compete with—and defeat—the best teams in the region.

Westchester first made its mark by capturing the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship, defeating Dutchess Community College in a thrilling championship match to earn the conference crown. The victory was a testament to the team's growth throughout the season and served as a springboard heading into postseason play.

The Vikings saved their best volleyball for the Region 15 Tournament.

Facing the tournament's top overall seed, Nassau Community College, Westchester delivered one of the biggest upsets in program history, knocking off the region's No. 1 team to advance. The Vikings then carried that momentum into the championship match, where they defeated Monroe-Bronx Community College, the tournament's No. 3 seed, to capture the Region 15 Championship and cement their place among the elite teams in the NJCAA.

The Region 15 Championship was more than just another trophy—it secured Westchester Community College's first-ever berth in the NJCAA National Tournament, marking a historic milestone for the volleyball program. For the first time in school history, the Vikings earned the opportunity to compete on the national stage, a fitting reward for a team that shattered expectations throughout the season.

Westchester's historic campaign was led by an exceptional group of sophomores whose leadership and experience helped define the season. Ashley Webber, Yulis Vidal, and Mid-Hudson Conference Most Valuable Player Ziacera Sexton formed the core of a championship team that set the standard for future Viking volleyball squads. Their leadership, talent, and competitive spirit inspired a roster that embraced every challenge and delivered one of the most memorable seasons the college has ever seen.

By season's end, the 2025 Vikings had accomplished what no team before them had achieved. With 20 victories, a Mid-Hudson Conference Championship, a Region 15 Championship, and the program's first-ever appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament, they established themselves as the most successful team in Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball history.

The accomplishments of the 2025 Lady Vikings extended far beyond wins and championships. They transformed the trajectory of the program, setting a new standard of excellence while proving that dedication, resilience, and belief can turn a talented team into a championship legacy. Their historic run will forever be remembered as the season that put Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball on the national map.
