Baseball Goes 8-1 Under the Sun

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

March 17, 2017 – Ft. Pierce, FL

The Vikings kept rolling right through the final games of their Florida trip as they won their last three games to finish the week 8-1.  Their only loss of the trip came in an extra inning game, their first game on Sunday.

Possibly the most unlikely triumph came on Thursday vs Kirkwood at historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach.  Westchester had split with Kirkwood in their two games earlier in the week.  When the Eagles opened up a 6-0 lead by the 5th inning, it looked like the Vikings' winning streak would come to an end.  But WCC would post eight runs in the inning to take the lead in route to the 8-7 win.  Brian Corporan (HS for Environmental Studies/Bronx, NY), Jon Carlo Angiolillo (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY) and Alex Borman (Huntington HS/Huntington, NY) all had two RBIs in the inning.  Nick Cona (Walter Panas HS/Cortlandt Manor, NY) entered in the 4th inning and kept the team in it long enough to earn the win.  John Reda (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) came in to put out a fire in the 7th to nail down the save.

Westchester then went on to play UCONN Avery Point in the second game of a double-header.  The Vikings scored early and often posting four runs in the 3rd and six runs in the 6th inning to take the game 13-6.  Luis Gomez pitched the final four innings to earn his 3rd win of the season.  Felix Camacho (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY) went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI.  CJ Sager (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run.

The team finished up a the trip with a 6-5 win against Future Stars Academy on Friday.  This time the Vikings fell behind in the 1st inning thanks to three unearned runs against Luke McDonagh (Carmel HS/Carmel, NY).  The team scored two in the bottom of the inning though and McDonagh would settle down to give the team five solid innings.  WCC added two runs in the 2nd and two more in the 4th as they held on for the win.  Brian Corporan went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a run.

The team returns to New York and returns to action on Wednesday, March 22nd as they travel to Suffolk CC to take on the Sharks at 3:30pm in Selden, NY.
