Box Score 2 April 7, 2017 – Wappingers Falls, NY
The WCC Baseball team started the regional schedule with a split vs Dutchess CC in the first portion of their 4-game series. While playing both games at Dutchess Stadium, the Vikings fell to the Falcons on Wednesday, 10-8 but then bounced back on Friday to win 13-6.
Fridays game featured a pair of home runs by
Paul Franzese (Somers, HS/Somers, NY) the second of which was a grand slam in the 8
th, where Westchester would snap a 6-6 tie to break the game open. Franzese went 2 for 5 with 6 RBIs for the game.
Scottie Giordano (Croton Harmon HS/Croton, NY) started the game and pitched 7 innings as he scattered 10 hits for 4 earned runs, he also went 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 runs and an RBI.
Alonso Tenya (Lima, Peru/Scarsdale, NY) was 3 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs as well.
On Wednesday, the Vikings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. It would be short lived though, thanks to a 6 run bottom of the 4th by DCC. Though the teams traded runs in the later innings, WCC was unable to cash in on some key opportunities, including having the bases loaded with no outs in the 9
th.
Felix Camacho (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY) was one of the offensive stars of the game going 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs.
Steve Guzman (JFK HS/Bronx, NY) and
Brian Corporan (HS for Environmental Studies/Bronx, NY) also went 2 for 4 at the dish with a RBI each.
With the split, the Vikings move to 17-7 and 1-1 in region play. The series was set to continue at Westchester today, but rainy weather has led to the double header being postponed. The teams will now resume play on Sunday, April 9
th at 12 noon on West Field.
