(Valhalla, NY) - Westchester Community College Director of Athletics Michael Belfiore has announced a reorganization of the annual Viking Classic Golf Outing to become a Golf-A-Thon to be held from October 5-11. The event will remain an opportunity for members of the Westchester CC campus community who participate in Golf to compete in a format that benefits the WCC Athletic Schloarship Fund, but a Golf-A-Thon format will allow for participants to compete in a distanced format, while also providing supporters of the Athletic Department who do not Golf to make an impact in this important fundraising effort.

"The Golf Outing Committee has met several times since we shifted to a remote operations, and the hope has been to conduct the Viking Classic as an in-person golf outing as we have in the past. But, it is clear now that we need to shift gears a bit in order to provide an event that our golfers can enthusiastically participate in while taking into consideration the the circumstances that we currently live in. The Golf-A-Thon will provide golfers with a chance to enjoy a round of golf at the course of their choice, compete, and support our student-athletes. I think the opportunity presented to our supporters who do not golf will make this year's event a lot of fun for our community." Belfiore said.

The Vikings Golf-A-Thon will allow participants to compete individually or as part of a four-some at the course of their choice between October 5 and October 11. They will play one round of golf during the week, while also soliciting donations per hole played. There will be a competition for the individual and foursome who raise the most pledges. Supporters of the athletic program will have the opportunity to 'sponsor' a participant of their choice by donating a denomination ($1 per hole, $3 per hole, $10 per hole, etc.) per hole played.

There will also be sponsorship opportunities for local business and corporations. Details will be announced shortly.

"I am thankful to the Golf Outing Committee for working together to come up with a format that allows any supporter of our program - whether or not they golf - to be a part of this important fundraising effort. As this event is essential for our Athletic Scholarship Fund, I am hopeful that our campus and athletic community will enthusiastically participate in to support our student-athletes." Belfiore said.
