Valhalla, NY - The SUNY Westchester Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be held on Friday, November 21st at Juliano's Restaurant in New Rochelle.  This year's induction class includes four individuals who have left an indelible mark on atheltics program over the years.
Janice Gilroy has been named as the Eugene "Buzz" Keefe Award winner.  This honor goes is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to the mission of Westchester Community College Athletics. Intended to honor the memory of the late Eugene "Buzz" Keefe, a three-sport coach and the first-ever Athletic Director at WCC, this award is presented to an individual who has been a great friend and supporter of WCC Athletics.  During her many years of service, Janice, our Health Services Coordinator, has exemplified the ideals of Mr. Keefe through her medical and personal support of our program as both a staff member and as a fan.
Sean Kenny was a standout soccer player for the Vikings during the 1981 and 1982 seasons.  He was a two time All-American who led the Vikings to the Region 15 Championship game his freshman year.  He went on to Keene State where he starred for the Owls as well.  His efforts there earned him two more All-American honors, becoming one of very few to ever achieve such accolades in all of his 4 years of playing.  He would go on to coach at Concordia College and St. Johns University where his team won the NCAA National Championship in 1996.
Lenny Capuano was quite literally one of the anchors of the 1971 National Championship Football team.  He was the starting center on the Hall of Fame team and was named as an All-American.  For the 1972 campaign he moved from Center to Right guard and probably would have been two time honoree if had not been for a rule change that year that didn't honor a team at all.  After his time with the Vikings, he entered into the Construction business and has been a loyal alumnus ever since, attending all of our football reunion events.
John Coffino attended as a pre-pharmacy student in the early 90's and played on the 91-92 season.  He then served as a loyal assistant coach for the Vikings for 6 years under Hall of Famer, Ralph Arietta.   He went on to coach at several Division I colleges including Iona College, Niagara Univeristy and St. Peter's University.  He also coached in the NBA D-league from 2007-2010.  He was an NBA scout and also coached several professional basketball teams overseas and around the world.
