Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - Tied 2-2 at halftime during a hotly-contested regular season finale, the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team put together perhaps their best second-half of the 2017 season as the Vikings went on a 4-0 run to defeat visiting Middlesex Community College, 6-2 at Barrett Field. With the win, the Vikings close the 2017 regular season with an 8-4 record.
On 'Sophomore Day' it was sophomore
Jamar Gayle who made the game a battle early as he scored on an assist from
Miguel Perez to open the scoring in the ninth minute. After a Blue Colt goal in the 12th minute, Gayle found the back of the net in the 34th minute to give WCC a 2-1 lead. However, a late Middlesex CC goal tied things at the break.
While Middlesex CC (5-11) focused on shutting Gale down during the second half, the Vikings focused on scoring goals, finding pay-dirt four times during a 12-minute span to blow the game wide open. In the 59th minute, Gale found
Luis Morales off the rush to make it 3-2 WCC. Six minutes later, freshman
Mate Mgeladze scored a nifty goal off of a Perez assist to give the VIkings a 4-2 lead. After several Middlesex scoring opportunities, Westchester put the game away with consecutive goals during a span of less than a minute for the 6-2 final. Mgeladze scored his second of the game in the 70th minute off of a
David Perez assist to make it 5-2, and Perez scored less than a minute later off of a
Manuel Tejeira helper for the final goal of the game.
Freshman
Jose Castrillo earned the win in net for WCC.
