(Selden, NY) -
Joel Arevalo notched two assists, and
Miguel Perez and
Jamar Gayle scored a goal apiece, but the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team saw the 2017 season come to an end with a 3-2 loss to Suffolk Community College on Saturday in the Region XV Quarterfinals. With the loss, WCC ends the season with an 8-5 record.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair as both teams had chances to score, but it was the host Sharks that found the net with less than a minute to play in the opening stanza to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.
WCC battled back to tie things six minutes into the second half when Arevalo found Perez, and the game was even at one. However, Suffolk (10-7-1) scored twice during a 12-minute span midway through the second half to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Just when it seemed like Westchester could not mount a rally, Gayle scored one last time for the Vikings, off of Arevalo's second assist, to make a 3-2 game, and make it an interesting finish. Despite their best efforts, WCC was unable to tie the score.
Suffolk advances to face top-seeded BMCC in the Region XV Semifinals. The other semifinal will see Queensborough Community College face Nassau Community College, Both games will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
