Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - Freshman Franco Ladron de Guevarra notched a hat-trick and added an assist, while sophomore
Jamar Gayle added two goals and an assist as the Westchester Community College men's soccer team downed Bronx CC 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Barrett Field. With the win, the Vikings improve to 6-2 overall, including a 4-0 ledger at home.
Ladron de Guevarra opened the scoring in the ninth minute on a nifty feed from Gayle. Five minutes later, sophomore Joel Arrevalo scored on a direct kick to make it 2-0. In the 21st minute, Ladron de Guevarra scored again to make it 3-0, and he then assisted on Gayle's first of the game in the 27th minute to make it 4-0. It appeard that the rout was on.
However, Bronx CC came storming back, scoring in the 36th, 48th, and 59th minute to make it 4-3. When it seemed like Broncos would tie things up, Gayle and Ladron de Guevarra put the game away for the Vikings. Gayle scored a spectacular goal off of an assist by Ladron de Guevarra in the 68th minute to make it 5-3, and Ladron de Guevarra finished things with a goal that was assisted by
Mate Mgeladze in the 84th minute for the 6-3 final.
Freshman goalkeeper Juan Tenesaca enjoyed a strong game in net, while sophomore
Ivan Ochoa had an outstanding defensive game, including a huge play in the 82 minute to keep Bronx CC off of the board.
The Vikings return home on Thursday, October 5 when they host Suffolk CC for a huge Region XV tilt at 4:00 p.m.
