Poughkeepsie, NY - Men's Soccer kept on rolling on Thursday as the team hit the road for a regional matchup versus Dutchess Community College at Poughkeepsie High School. The Vikings scored early and held the lead late as they came home with the win, 3-1.
Five minute marks seemed to be relevant in the scoring as both teams looked for their chance to put points on the board. Freshman Alex Valdivinos (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle HS) opened the scoring just 5-minutes into the match to give Westchester an early lead. Though the Vikings had a few opportunities, the game was 1-0 at the half and was well played by both teams. Out of the break, Westchester scored 5 minutes into the half again, as Sophomore
Alejandro Martinez (Mount Vernon, NY/Cardinal Spellman HS) gave the team more of a cushion with his second goal of the season.
As time was winding down, the Falcons netted a goal with 5 minutes remaining in the game, which made the remaining moments frantic as they looked to find the equalizer to potentially send the match into overtime. But it was Valdivinos again, just two minutes later, who scored his 2nd goal of the match to put the game out of reach and seal the win for the VIkings.
Nicolas Nunez (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) had another solid game for his 3rd win of the season as he made 7 saves.
With the win, Westchester improves to 3-1 on the season. They return to action on Saturday, September 17th as they host Hudson Valley Community College on Vikings Field for a non-region matchup. The game will kick off at 1pm.
