Valhalla, NY- On a beautiful fall day in Valhalla the Vikings of Westchester County took on the Wave from Kingsborough in the first round of the Region 15 playoffs. Both teams had successful seasons as Westchester solidified a 3 seed and KCC had a 6 seed. Westchester won the regular season match up 5-0 so Kingsborough was looking for their get back. Â
Â
There truly is no feeling like playoff sports and you could just feel the intensity before kickoff and the excitement the match was about to bring.Â
Â
The first half was action packed with many shots on goal. 15 first half shots were taken with many saves. When it all settled down tho Westchester found themselves down 1-0 to Kingsborough.Â
Â
With about 25 minutes left The Vikings found themselves in a tough spot down 2-0. This wasn't odd territory for the Viking's as they had found themselves down many times this season and came back. In classic WCC fashion they evened the score. Freshman Jorge Gonzalez scored the first one to get them going. 10 minutes later another freshman Dydronold Aulibrice got one past the keeper and with 9 minutes left we thought the cardiac kids were gonna do it again.Â
Â
Unfortunately the comeback would end there, a truly heroic effort from the Vikings as they had shown many times this season but in this game they came up just short. Kingsborough survived the late push and scored 2 late to give them an upset win over Westchester.
Â
This is not how we wanted the season to end, but you cannot ignore everything the Vikings did to put themselves in this position. Battling injuries, yellow card suspensions, and the comeback wins made WCC a truly special team and although they didn't accomplish their ultimate goal, it was a great season nonetheless.
Â
Thank you to the sophomores who greatly helped us this season and good luck on all of your future endeavors. The Vikings will most certainly be back next year for another quest for the illustrious Region 15 title.
