Amanda Smith came to SUNY Westchester in the fall of 2013 as a Criminal Justice major from Saunders High School in Yonkers. She was a standout athlete in both Women’s Basketball and Softball and had a desire to continue her playing career in college.
During the 2013-14 Women’s Basketball season, Amanda had an immediate impact for the Vikings averaging 17.2 Points per game. This earned her First Team All-Conference honors as well as a nod as Second Team All-Region. Smith backed that up with a sophomore season that would see her become one of the top junior college players in the area. For her efforts, she was named as both First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region.
Her hard work and dedication also showed up on the softball diamond, being voted to the All-Region Second Team in 2014. As with basketball, Amanda built off her solid freshman year campaign to be named as First Team All-Region for the 2015 Softball season where she lead the team in virtually every offensive and defensive statistical category.
Her former Softball Coach at WCC, Buddy Caruso, describes her impact to the program by stating: “ I spent my career working in professional baseball. I wish that I had players that had half the talent and heart that “Smitty” displayed while I coached her. She was the best women’s Student-Athlete in the whole program during her time at WCC”.
Amanda graduated from SUNY WCC with an Associates Degree in Applied Science in 2017. She has since moved on to become an Assistant Coach for girl’s soccer at Saunders High School where the team had one of their most successful seasons in school history. She continues to coach and mentor young people and currently works in the Yonkers Public School District.
