Hall of Fame
Gene Westmoreland was a student-athlete at Westchester Community College from 1961-1963. During his time in Valhalla, Gene earned his BBA in Accounting. He was a member of both the Men's Basketball and Golf teams both years. The 61-62 and 62-63 basketball teams advanced to the NJCAA Regional Tournament. His golf team finished 2nd in the NJCAA Northeast Championship which was held in West Virginia.
After graduating from Westchester in 1963, Mr. Westmoreland went to Pace University where he earned a degree in Business Administration/Marketing. For the Setters, Gene played Basketball, Baseball, Golf and even ran Cross Country. After his time as a student-athlete he went on to coach various sports at Pace including basketball and baseball from 1966-1980. He was the Athletic Director for the Pleasantville Campus from 1975-1980. In addition to being in the WCC Sports Hall of Fame, he was the 10th person elected to the Pace University Athletic Hall of Fame.
From 1980-2008 Westmoreland served as Senior Director of Rules & Competitions and Assistant Executive Director of the Metropolitan Golf Association. In 2002 he was elected President of the International Association of Golf Administrators. He has been a member of the Rules Committee for 10 USGA championships including four US Opens.
From 1990 to present time, Mr. Westmoreland has been a columnist and author for various periodicals including Senior Golf Magazine; Suburban Golfer; The Met Golfer. He also authored “A Game For Life – Golf’s Rules & Rewards”, published in 2012.
