Hall of Fame
Merely competing for a basketball team that advances to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament is an athletic accomplish in itself. Being the leading scorer on this team, and later accepting a scholarship to compete at the NCAA Division I level is noteworthy enough to gain enshrinement into the Westchester Community College Sports Hall of Fame. Tonight, Viking great Ralph Scozzafava is being honored for a basketball career that saw him become an all-time great for a program that produced many of them.
Â
During the 1979-1980 basketball season, Westchester Community College finished the season with a 30-6 record, including a trip to Hutchinson, Kansas for a shot at the NJCAA National Championship. During this incredible run, Scozzafava was the leading scorer on the team, and advanced his game to the point where the University of Pacific offered him a scholarship, and he started for the Tigers for the final two seasons of his career.
Â
After graduation, Scozzafava earned an MBA from the University of Rhode Island, and completed the KMI graduate program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University before embarking on an incredibly successful business career. Among his successes was a stint as Chief Executive Officer at Dean Foods, the largest fluid milk company in the United States.Â
