Hall of Fame
Shawn Lee was one of the most successful athletes to ever pass through the WCC campus, where he started a career that would take him to the grandest stage in football. Born October 24, 1966 in Brooklyn, he began playing and starring at football while attending Erasmus Hall High School.
After graduating, Lee chose to continue his education and athletic career at Westchester Community College. Playing at the Defensive Lineman position, he spent two years developing his skills before moving onto the University of North Alabama for two hall of fame caliber years. At North Alabama, Shawn did not just stand out on the football field, as he was a co-founder of the Player Community Resource Center.
His years at North Alabama led to him being selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shawn would spend two years in Tampa and one in Miami before he found his greatest success with the San Diego Chargers. He and fellow Defensive Tackle Reuben Davis were affectionately known as "The Two Tons of Fun" among Chargers fans. They both played a part in taking the team all the way to Super Bowl XXIX where they were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers. Shawn also spent time with the Chicago Bears before retiring after an eleven year career.
Shawn passed away in February of 2011 at the age of 44, leaving behind a legacy of not only being a tremendous competitor, but a tremendous man who cared for many.Â
