Ray Del Maestro coached the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball program to unparalleled success. The 1982-83 season was by far the best season the Lady Vikings had enjoyed at any point in its history. They won the Mid-Hudson Conference and the Region XV Championships. This qualified the team for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament for the first time in program history. Del Maestro was a stellar coach. He was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year as he brought out the best in several top student-athletes. The 1983 team featured the sixth-best rebounder in the nation, Donna Tribble, He also coached a duo of NJCAA All-Americans in Patrice Walker and Sheila Henderson.
Del Maestro currently teaches in the education department as an adjunct professor at St. Johns University. He is a New York State certified softball umpire for NYC Public Schools Athletic League, Division III College and travel softball. Ray also is certified to referee Basketball for NYC PSAL.
