Andre Hererra played Football for Westchester Community College during the 1972 and 1973 seasons.  As someone without organized football experience, Herrera walked on to the team and excelled.  After being converted from a receiver to a running back, his natural athleticism shined in route to him being named All-Conference and an All-American both for both of his years as a Viking.  One of the highlights of his WCC career was when he ran for six touchdowns during a victory over Iona College his freshman year.  In addition to football, he also was recruited to play basketball for Westchester. Andre finished his two-year career at the junior college level with 33 touchdowns and more than 2000 yards rushing.  He graduated in 1974 with an AA Degree in Liberal Arts.

After receiving multiple scholarship offers to major Division I programs, Hererra accepted a full ride to play for Southern Illinois University.  As one of the nation’s top backs, he was named as the AP Player of the Week three times during his senior year.  He also set a NCAA record at the time for most yards in a single quarter with 217.  That same year he matched his WCC career high of six touchdowns in one game, during a victory over Northern Illinois. In 1976 he finished second in the country in overall rushing yards to none other than future NFL Hall of Famer, Tony Dorsett.

After graduating Southern Illinois with his BA, Herrera was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1977 and went on to play for three seasons in the NFL between the Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals.

Andre then retired and has had a successful career in Marketing and Sales. He is now the National Sales Director for an Ad and Print Company and currently resides in Novi, Michigan.
